Building A Capsule Wardrobe for Work
Building a wardrobe for work can be challenging, especially for fashion lovers. On the one hand you want to be taken seriously, but at the same time you don't want to completely lose your sense of individual style. Luckily, our Canadian designers make it easy to bridge the gap between professional and fashionable. Here are some of our favourite slow fashion designers making work-appropriate boutique clothing.
#1. Meemoza
Made in Montreal, Meemoza makes great everyday pieces for work. All of their styles are comfortable and neutral, making them easy to pair with items you already own. Many of their fabrics are OEKO-TEX Certified, which makes them an environmentally friendly clothing choice as well.
#2. Bodybag By Jude
Also made in Montreal is Bodybag by Jude. This Canadian slow fashion house has been in business for more than twenty years, so they definitely know a few things about designing women's clothing! All of their pieces are flattering, comfortable and ethically made.
If you're allowed to get away with a little bit of colour at work, why not try a piece from Toronto's Birds Of North America? Inspired by vintage silhouettes, these dresses, skirts and tops are made with funky cotton patterns, but the hem lengths are still office-appropriate! This plus-size friendly line is available up to Size 18.
#4. Dagg & Stacey
Also made in Toronto is Dagg & Stacey. Their clothing is simple and elegant, yet still modern. We like to think of their pieces as the perfect mix-and-match clothing to style professionally at work, then wear more casually on the weekends.
#5. Valerie Dumaine
Montreal's Valerie Dumaine has been in business since the early 2000s and for good reason! Her clothes are modern and edgy, but still ultra-wearable. Plus, her draping skills are off the charts. We love her menswear-inspired fall and winter coats, which sell out every year.
#6. Mercedes Morin
We've only carried Mercedes Morin's clothing for a year, but we're obsessed with this new Montreal fashion designer. Handmade by Mercedes and her mother, this line is practical and comfortable, while also fun and slightly '70s inspired.
#7. Eliza Faulkner
Want to bring a little more personality into your work looks? Eliza Faulkner's clothing features classic silhouettes with bold colours, fun patterns and whimsical draping. If you want to add a bit of cottagecore or Y2K style into your work outfits while still staying professional, this is the boutique clothing line to check out.
#8. Jennifer Glasgow
If you're looking for well-made basics, Jennifer Glasgow has your back. This boutique clothing line makes professional neutral clothing that still has some personality to it. We especially love her blouses and dresses!
