Julie-Anne is the Vancouver-based maker behind FRNGE. Dakelh and Metis on her mother's side, Julie-Anne wasn't able to engage with the culture when she was growing up, as her mother was adopted into a non-Indigenous family. She first learned how to bead from her Indigenous school counsellor in Grade 3 and would spend countless lunch hours with her doing this. Most of her work is beaded using traditional and contemporary styles, and she uses it both to connect with her roots, as well as to try to bring something new to the world.
