The cutest cropped tees have come in from Birds of North America in collaboration with artist Neil MacCormick. Neil has painted full time since 1984 and co-owns Birds of North America with his partner, designer Hayley Gibson. The two have shared a studio since meeting in 2006.
Notes from Hayley Gibson:
I love this painting so much. It’s not simply the pure, sunbaked feeling of summeriness that it captures, but also that this image celebrates what was a very commonly seen type of vehicle in the era in which I grew up in Victoria. My family didn’t have a camper, so they were never really demystified to me, and have remained quietly delightful objects. The idea that you could have a complete home with a bed and a kitchen and a bathroom and a little window like a house, all in a moving vehicle that you could drive somewhere else, still strikes me as a marvellous notion!
Neil painted ‘Beware of Dog’ in 1993 from a photo he took in the Jubilee area of Victoria. BC. He noticed that people seemed to do more camping and roaming in Victoria, as opposed to going to cottages as people seemed to lean more towards in Toronto. This simple camper, sitting in a driveway, evokes a quiet, summery neighborhood feeling so strongly to me.
