Micah Adams Penny Leaf Dangle Earings

Regular price $120.00

Commemorate the passing of the Canadian penny (1937-2012) with these graceful odes.

These Dangle earrings are made from Canadian pennies, each leafcarefully cut out by hand and soldered to a gold fill chain. Finished with Rose gold plating.

The maple twig design was introduced on Canadian pennies in 1937 after a competition was held to redesign the Canadian coinage. 76 drawings by 12 Canadian artists were rejected and British designer G.E. Kruger Gray was commissioned to submit a sketch that was eventually selected. He was known for the design of many other countries' coinage Throughout the British empire, such as Australia and New Zealand. This perhaps explains why the design itself is considered botanically incorrect. His initials KG appear in the lower right of the twig.
